The Neurosurgeon

Neurosurgery is a specialty dedicated to the medical and surgical care of the brain and nervous system. As with many other surgical specialties, training takes many years, and the workload can be very demanding.

Education: Neurosurgeons are physicians who follow the traditional path of physician education. A neurosurgeon must complete an undergraduate degree, and budding neurosurgeons often concentrate on a science field. College is also followed by four years of medical school.

Demand for this profession: The U.S Bureau of labor statistics reports that demand for physicians and surgeons is expected to grow 24 percent between 2010  and 2020.
